Me as a Note Taker

This is just one of the many examples of the notes I took over the semester in this class. On March 27th, 2013, we discussed with our group members about informational, persuasive and narrative writings. We discussed what makes each writing style unique and how to differentiate between all the styles of writing. I chose this artifact because as a learner, I struggled with differentiating between the three types of writings. Taking these notes and hearing what other students found about these writing styles really helped me learn. I like for my notes to be very thorough and to have examples. I like to be able to connect it to something I already know so it helps me remember it. Learning this is very important for me because I will be teaching about these different writing styles. I think it is important for me to understand the differences so my students will be able to understand them as well. Knowing this will help me out greatly because I will be able to answer any questions my students have about these writing styles.
Me as a Learner

I absolutely loved learning about Writer's Workshop. When we first started learning about it, I was a little hesitant because it looked like such a long, complicated process. As we continued to learn about it, I realized that it wasn't much at all. This is a picture of what goes on in a Writer's Workshop. I chose this artifact because it summarizes the entire Writer's Workshop into just a few bullet points that are easy to remember. I like to take a lot of information and condense it into quick, easy-to-read bullets so this tells me that as a learner, I am very strong at summarizing. This was very important for me to learn because this is something I would definitely take into my classroom. As a student, one of the things I hated to do was writing. The Writer's Workshop makes writing so easy and fun for children to do because it doesn't even seem like work. This is a great idea and it also helps students become confident in their writing abilities.
Me as a Planner

On January 30th, 2013, I began planning ideas for my Multi-Genre Project. This took me a while because I was unsure of what I wanted my topic to be. I began jotting down ideas and brainstorming what all I thought would be some potential project ideas. I chose this artifact because it shows that I explored many options. As a learner, I didn't settle for the first thing that came into my mind. I brainstormed multiple things before I settled for the one that I had the strongest connection with. This artifact also shows potential genre ideas that I was considering using in my Multi-Genre Project. This was important for me to do because brainstorming and planning out all my options really helped me narrow down my options. This will influence me as a future teacher because I will ask my students to always brainstorm before they beginning writing anything out. I think it's important for children to see all their options before they settle for one and realize they don't have enough information to finish that writing.
Me as a Writer

This is one of my pieces from my Multi-Genre Project. This artifact is a Prayer for my sister. I chose this piece because it was the piece I was most proud of. I put a lot of thought into this piece and I wanted to make sure it was perfect. I used the Writer's Workshop multiple times to revise and edit this piece. Although this piece took a lot of time, I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. This was a significant work because I thought it brought the entire piece together for a great ending. While working with this piece, I learned that not all writing has to be fictional or a story; it can be based on true life events.
Me as a Reflector

I chose this piece from my Daybook. We began class by choosing and reading a children's book and writing about what we thought. I chose this piece because it shows critical thinking. As a learner, this shows that I am perceptive. I searched for insight and hidden messages in the book of what the author might have wanted to get across to the reader. This was important to me because I want my students to have that same perceptiveness. I want them to be able to read and understand a text as well as have higher level thinking skills. This influences me as a future teacher because I will try to have students read books that have an underlying message or books that have them ask fat, informational questions instead of skinny questions.
